TAHLIA CAVES
Between Elliston & Baird Bay there are a number of cave systems beneath the overhanging cliff faces.
SKINKY
Along the road to Baird Bay we came across a Shingleback lizard. Dano is always keen to get his hands on one of our coldblooded friends.
BAIRD BAY DOLPHINS
The drive into Baird Bay is via approx 60kms dirt track but is well worth the diversion. We free camped & caught up with some people from Vic & Qld we had seen along the journey. The following morning we jumped onto a small charter to dive with the local dolphins & sea lions. This is Great White territory & Kazza had nightmares the previous night as she prepared for the dive. After suiting up on the mainland, we boarded & headed for the open water. Before long our skipper had located a pod of about 25 animals. To our delight there were two pups no more than a month old. We plunged into the cool waters & enjoyed swimming & diving with these mammals for about 30 minutes. At times the dolphins came so close you could have easily touched them. Dano later said that he had touched one. You could even hear their distinct calls to one another.
