98. Cocklebiddy

THE SIGN SAYS IT ALL

COCKLEBIDDY CAVE

This cave system runs beneath the vast plains of the Nullabour. We travelled along a bumpy track to take a look. No one comes here anymore as the caves are closed unless by prior arrangement. I can remember reading of this discovery about 25 years ago & the pictures showed French caving & diving experts making their way through the myriad of tunnels. The entire system is full of water that is so clear it appears that it doesn’t even exist. The cavers take in several Scuba tanks and make their way along the cables that they have installed over the years. I remember reading that one of their fears apart from becoming lost and drowning was that at any time they could come across a waterfall that they could not see nor hear & plunge to a certain death.

ONCE AGAIN; THE SIGN SAYS IT ALL

We stopped midway along this stretch for the night & enjoyed several reds & a campfire with Adam, Kristy & the boys.
