97. Cactus - Nullabour

BACK TO NATURE

Cactus style showers. Do you really need a fancy bathroom with soft close toilet seats, heated towel rails & 24 jet spa baths?

CACTUS SURF BREAK

We caught up with a guy that had been surfing here for 30 years. We spoke to him about encounters with sharks. He was intact but knew of others less fortunate. Everywhere you go out here there are memorials of those who had lost their lives to the Great White. There is a seat in left of picture that bears a plaque to the memory of a guy who was taken whilst on honeymoon. Down the hill another that tells a story of a young kid who used to swim out to the local lobster boat to collect some lobsters for his mother & was taken. But to look at the beauty you can understand why many continue to take the risk & surf one of the finest & definitely one of the prettiest breaks in Oz.

NULLABOUR

Time at Cactus Had to come to an end. The Nullabour was there to be taken. At least these days there is a perfectly graded bitumen roadway. It is difficult to image just how hard it would have been for the early pioneers. John Ayre was the first white man to make this crossing & there are several monuments along the way that mark his route.
