47. Leichardt Falls and the road to Normanton

THE REAL ‘SAVANNAH WAY’


Up here it’s pretty much totally isolated. The sun has set, however the heat still radiates from the rock upon which we are camped. Few people stay here & the only sounds are that of the animals in the nearby scrub. There is what is known as the ‘Alternative Savannah Way’, but this is the Real McCoy & we are loving it.



TERMITE CITIES

These termite mounds extend for hundreds of k’s. In this case a recent fire had burned the undergrowth exposing a landscape that seems endless.





BROLGAS

These girls put a great dance. We actually had Madonna blearing out the window. The birds began prancing about in a slow inquisitive procession towards us.
