49. Normanton Red Claw - Karumba

VEGETARIANS We did a little experiment with our second toss of the pots. The conclusion was that the ‘Redclaw’  yabbie  must be vegetarian. In one pot we had meat, the other meat & veg. The pot with meat only had not one, the other about fifteen.

KARUMBA – Barra Discovery Centre After leaving Normanton we arrived at Karumba which is situated in the south eastern corner of the Gulf of Carpentaria & at the opening to the Norman River. We took a trip to this Barra Discovery Centre that was fab. One interesting fact was that they can simulate everything to these fish in captivity with the exception of the full moon. Not even bright lights can trigger these fish into their natural spawning phase. Even within the confines of a building they can tell when the moon is full.
